Introduction

Who am I?

My name is Hamad Al-Hajri. I am from Doha, Qatar. I currently work for Qatar Foundation as a research assistant. I am a senior Civil Engineering student, minoring in political science. I have construction management as my concentration. During my free time, I like to read a lot on History and Philosophy. Swimming is my favorite sport.

What do I want to learn from the course?

I am looking forward to this class. I travel a lot and that is when I started to take a strong liking to unique structures all over the world and know each story behind every structure. I hope of having enough exposure to all kinds of intelligent buildings and expand my knowledge of them from a technical (engineering) aspect. There is always much more to a building than how it looks or its intended purpose, therefore, I hope this course enlighten me of these unique aspects.

How would I define Intelligent buildings?

Thinking of intelligent buildings, technology is the first thing that comes into my mind. I feel that what differentiate intelligent buildings from regular buildings are their special characteristics, whether technologically or structurally. The word intelligent tells me that there is something extra a building has as oppose to a regular building. I hope this course broaden my knowledge of what these extra things are and why adding them made a building "intelligent".
